Diet Water's Random Bullshit

How to actually get good sleep at night.

I watched the below video from Dr. K today and I have to say that I really enjoyed it! Underneath the video I summarized his main key points on getting better sleep (the second half of the video).

  1. Do productive things for up to 4 hours after you wake up. This calms down the frontal lobe (which makes you actually feel ready to sleep after a days work)
  2. Manage your emotions so you can sleep faster, easier, and more refreshed. Do this by giving yourself space before bed (1 hour) to think, feel, and process. You can do this by staring at a wall, taking a walk (his preferred method), or journaling (which is what I do!)
  3. Manage orexin levels: eat high carb dinner (decreases orexin, which is the hormone that keeps you awake). To stay awake, eat a high fat meal (but beware of overdoing it)
  4. Engage diurnal rhythm: give brain a period of light and a period of darkness. Go outside in the morning (am) and after dark (pm).
  5. Don't do bedtime procrastination by using a device. Don't bring phone (or any other screens) to bed. Remove the access so you don't waste time scrolling.

How to make your own stickers

Okay guys, so today in my art class we were talking about mixed media. We had to fill 8 circles with a different type of medium each (paint, graphite, colored pencil, fabric, etc). One of these was a thing called "tape transfer", which is tl;dr, a method where you imprint a design on paper to tape and make it into a sticker. I was honestly shocked because I didn't know you could do this! I've been wanting to make my own stickers for a while, but I didn't know how. So now, I'll enlighten you guys and tell you how to make a sticker using a tape transfer.

Step 1: Get your image

Obviously, you have to get something to print out. Any image will work just fine. For example, I used the modified bear logo from Radiohead for my tape transfer.

Step 2: Copy and paste onto a word/google doc

Copy and paste the image onto a word or google doc. Resize it to your liking.

Step 3: Print

Note:If you don't have a colored printer, keep in mind that any colored image you print will be black and white. To print, just do ctr+p. Make sure the dpi is as high as possible so your image is higher resolution. Also make sure you're connected to the printer you're using.

Step 4: Cut out image

Cut out the image (obviously) and trim along the lines as neatly and close as possible.

Step 5: Put packing tape on top

Place image face-up on a table. Then put a strip of packing tape ontop of the image, making sure to cover the whole thing. Rub scissors ontop of the image to make sure it is fully adhered to the tape. There shouldn't be any bubbles (don't be like me).

Step 6: Trim tape as close as you want to the image

Step 7: Dip the tape in lukewarm water

Dip the tape in lukewarm water, fully submerging it. Leave it to rest for at least 5 minutes.

Step 8: Take tape out of water

Take the tape out of the water. Carefully scrape on the opposing side of the image to clear all the paper off, making sure to not rip the tape. It should be completely transparent

Step 9: Wait for it to dry completely

Step 10: All done!

Congrats! You made your own sticker, now stick it onto something. I stuck mine onto my journal

I made this whisper and posted it onto my pinterest. I'm not giving an explanation.

Calvin Coolidge is relatable whisper
Calvin Coolidge may be my favorite president, but Al Gore is my favorite vice president (I'm weird).

I found this neat video on the sources of a lot of samples Boards of Canada use in their music
